Form 5500 is a report containing financial, investment and operational information about employee benefit plans, including those plans that participate in the ABA Retirement Funds Program (“the Program”).
- Plans with fewer than 100 participants as of the beginning of the plan year may file Form 5500-SF (short form) while plans with 100 or more participants as of the beginning of the plan year file the full Form 5500.
- Owner-only plans may not have to file at all unless their plan balance exceeds $250,000.
- For plan years ending on December 31, Form 5500 must be filed before July 31* of the following year using the U.S. Department of Labor’s EFAST2 system.
How can the Program help?
The Program prepares a signature-ready Form 5500 for your review and provides filing instructions and credentials to plan administrators via email on or about June 15. *Form 5558 (Application for Extension of Time to File Certain Employee Plan Returns) is also prepared and uploaded with the Form 5500 in the event a plan sponsor wishes to request an extension of time with the IRS.
