On or about June 15, the ABA Retirement Funds Program (“Program”) sent your Forms 5500, 5500-SF, and 5500-EZ1 by email for your review and filing.

NEW!

This year only, all plans in the Program have been put on filing extension and will have until October 15, 2022 to file their Form 5500 for the 2021 plan year. Please note, if you are filing the form after the traditional July 31 deadline, you will need to check the “Form 5558” box at the top of page 1 of the Form 5500/5500-SF/5500-EZ to indicate that an extension was filed.

The DOL requires that Form 5500 be filed electronically. Instructions and your credentials were sent to you via email.  The Program helps you to eFile (a web-based system) and connects you to the DOL’s EFAST2 web application. eFile stores your Form 5500/5500-SF/5500-EZ for you to access, review, and file directly with the DOL. Remember to check the “Form 5558” box at the top of page 1 of the Form if you are filing after July 31 this year.

To effectively use eFile, it’s important that the Program has accurate contact information on file for all Plan Sponsors.  If you have not done so already, please email the Program at contactus@abaretirement.com with the following information:

  • email address of the individual at your firm who signs your Form 5500/5500-SF/5500-EZ, and
  • email address of the authorized plan representative at your firm (this person may be the same as listed above)

If you provided an email address last year and the information has not changed, you do not need to send it again.

The Form 5500 Reporting section of the Electronic Plan Administrator Guide (“ePAG”) will provide you with additional information on the electronic filing process.

Please Note: Form 5500 is publicly available once it is electronically filed on the DOL’s website at www.efast.dol.gov. By searching under your Employer Identification Number, you can verify that a Form 5500 was filed successfully for all plan years going back to 2009.

1 Form 5500, a report required to be filed annually by the U.S. Department of Labor (“DOL”) contains financial, investment and operational information about employee benefit plans.
